Below is a series of questions and answer from HostMonster support team and me as their existing client. By going through these answers you will definitely know if your website is going to run properly or not.

These questions will be much more useful for more advanced or power users who knows about server configuration requirements.

Ok, I will answer your questions here:

1. How many domain names do you host on my existing server?

A: unlimited

2. At any point in time, can I request you to restore my account to a previous available set of backup. If so, is there any additional fees to it? Otherwise I may consider getting an off-site backup somewhere.

A: We do offer courtesy backups, however we can’t guarantee their presence at all times, so we recommend you use the backup tool provided in your cpanel as often as possible.

3. Do you support ffmpeg on my server?

A: No, we do not and we will not be able to install software to support it. You will most likely need dedicated hosting for this

4. Can you please install Mycrypt on php, I need it for one of my application. Also, if in the future I may require a php module that is not available, can you install it for me?

A: Mcrypt is installed by default on all of our servers

5. Is it possible to change my main domain name on my hosting account later on? If so, what is the procedure?

A: Yes, you can rename it later on. You will just need to call tech support and we will do it for you.

6. Does your server auto kill processes in case they reach a certain processing time or memory usage?

A: Ocassionally processes will get out of hand, but we offer a process manager in your cpanel so you can go in and kill processes that aren’t terminating correctly.

7. What is the php “fill in the blank” set to? Can I have it set to -1

A: you will not be able to set it to -1, and the max we suggest raising those values to is ‘128′

10. What is the memory_limit set on php?

A: the highest I would recommend raising this to is 128M

11. I am not intending to host an adult community site, but in any case should one of my member upload an adult related video into my community site, what is your policy in regards to it?

A: if anyone uploads any adult material to your site and we see it we will automatically suspend your account without warning. you will need to keep an eye on your scripts.

12. I am about to use GoogleApps as well, how do I modify my domain’s DNS records?

A: yes, you can submit a ticket to us and we can perform any DNS changes you need done.

13. I need to know your mail sending limit policy. How many emails can I send out per hour? Also, how big is the allowed mail attachments, is it possible for my users to attach 200 MB

A: The most we can raise your outbound email limit to is 750 per hour and the limit for attachments is 10MB

14. Do you use mod_security? If yes, can I turn it off for my own account using .htaccess?

A: no, that is not installed on our servers, and you will not be able to make modifications to it with .htaccess

15. Can I set my own php variables through my own local php.ini and .htaccess directives?

A: no, you can not set php variables in .htaccess. That will need to be done via php.ini

16. Do you run phpsuexec on your server?

A: Yes, we do have it on our servers

17. Do you support magento installation?

A: Yes, we do. We provide an installation tool in your cpanel -> software/services -> simple scripts.
